Waltham 18s 11J, circa 1884
Model 1877, "PS Bartlett"
Stem Wind, Lever Set
Original 4 ounce Coin Silver Hunter Case
Dial: This original single
sunk dial is signed "A. W. Co. WALTHAM" and is in excellent
condition! It features black Roman numerals and has just a couple
of small hairlines visible under magnification, as seen in the photo.
Original dials are very tough to find better shape than this! The
spade hands are deep blue and appear to be in excellent condition.
Movement: The shiney gold
colored gilt finished movement features an expansion balance, a
patent regulator, and screw down jewel settings. This well running
"P.S. Bartlett" high grade movement has been professionally
cleaned, oiled, and has a new main spring. It is running well and
keeps good time!
Case: This original 4
ounce coin silver hunter case is in good condition overall. There
is lots of wear, but most of the fancy engraving is not worn off.
It is marked "FAHYS COIN No. 1" in the inside of the back
lid, and marked "4" inside the dust cover. The stiff bow
appears original and is in good shape. The crown is yellow instead
of silver, as found. Many times the silver wore off and they were
yellow underneath. It functions properly as well. The front lid
opens further than 90 degrees, but opens and closes properly. The
inner dust cover hinge is a little weak, but functional. All other
hinges, springs, and the latch function properly. The offset hinges
appear to be gold, which was common for hinged cases when this was
made. This is a real nice example of a 130+ year old silver hunter
case and shows very well.
Crystal: The clear glass crystal
is in excellent condition and shows off this pristine dial very
The model 1877 is one of the
predecessors to the highly produced later model 1883. These are
getting very hard to find in their original cases. The total weight
of this coin silver case and movement is just over 5.7 ounces!
