American Watch Co, 18s 15J, circa
1875
Model 1857, "Waltham Watch
Co"
Factory Lever Set, Stem Wind
Nickel Alloy "Dust Proof"
Case
Dial: This original
pinned single sunk dial is signed AMERICAN WATCH CO. This classic
dial features Roman hour numerals with a minute track towards
the edge. It is in good condition. The sub seconds bit has been
reattached as seen in the photo. The cobalt blue spade hands are
in excellent condition as well!
Movement: This gilded
movement is signed WALTHAM WATCH CO, ADJUSTED. The gilding does
have some spots and ancient fingerprints from someone who has handled
it in the last 133 years! This high grade movement features screw
down jewel settings, and an expansion balance. This well running
American watch has been serviced recently, and is keeping decent
time! Most of Waltham's 1857 model are key wind and key set. This
is a very uncommon factory stem wound, lever set version!
Case: This case
is in good working order. It is signed AWCO. This is not the original
case, and it has been modified for the lever setting. There are
also a few dings and light surface scratches from honest use, but
this heavy duty nickel alloy case has a lot of life left. The front
bezel threads on and off properly. The movement ring hinge is in
fine working order as well. The bow nice and secure. The crown is
well worn but still winds and sets the watch fine.
Crystal: The
thick clear glass crystal is in nearly new condition!
