Hampden 16s 17J, circa 1906
Model 3, "Gen'l Stark"
Lever Set, Stem Wind
Gold Filled Hunting Case
Dial: Original single
sunk dial is marked "HAMPDEN WATCH CO" in red fancy script, as
well as "CANTON OHIO" above the sub seconds chapter. This porcelain
fired dial does not show any hairlines or cracks. It is in pristine
shape. The thin cobalt hands appear in nice shape as well.
Movement: This nickel
damaskeened movement is marked GEN'L STARK. General Stark was more
than just a famous general during the American Revolution. He also
coined the phrase "Live Free Or Die!" now his home state of New
Hampshire's motto. (Click on this link
for a bio of General John Stark.) There are some minor very
light scratches and such on the movement's finish from being cleaned
over its decades of service which is typical for any 100 year old
watch. It also features screw down jewel settings, 17 jewels, an
expansion balance, a Breguet hair spring, and a patent micro regulator.
This well running watch has been professionally cleaned and oiled,
and is keeping excellent time!
Case: The gold
filled case appears original to this watch. It is signed DUEBER
WARRANTED 20 YEARS. It shows lots of use, including minor scuffs
and scratches from normal pocket wear. There are two minor spots
on the case that have some wear to the brass from the bow runbbing
against it. The bow has most all of the gold plating worn off to
the brass below. It is quite difficult to find a functional gold
filled hunting case in this good of condition these days. Many times
the latch wears down the lip of the lid from people "snapping"
the lid shut (this is not how to close any hunting cased pocket
watch!)
Crystal: The
glass crystal is in nearly new condition!
