Elgin 18s 15J, circa 1889
Model 5, Grade 44
Pendant Set, Stem Wind
"Oresilver" Screw Back
& Bezel Case
Dial: This original
single sunk Roman numeral dial is signed ELGIN NAT'L WATCH CO. There
appears to be one very faint light hair line crack visible upon
magnification. The cobalt blue hour and minute hands are in new
condition, and appear to be replacements.
Movement: The
nickel damaskeened movement features screw down jewel settings and
a patent micro regulator. It shows very well, especially for a watch
produced over 120 years ago! In 1889, 15 jewel watches were close
to the best one could get! It has been professionally cleaned and
oiled and is keeping good time.
Case: The screw
back and bezel case is marked FAHY'S ORESILVER. This nickel alloy
case has some minor scuffs and scratches from normal wear. The front
bezel and rear cover thread on and off properly. The bow and crown
show little use. The case appears original to this watch movement!
Crystal: Clear
glass crystal is in great condition, but does have one scratch that
measures about 1/4 of an inch (near the five minute mark of the
dial. It is fairly difficult to notice since it is near the edge
of the crystal.
Dimensions:
About 2 1/4 inches wide (about 58 mm)
About 3 1/2 inches tall (about 82 mm)
About 3/4 inch thick (about 21 mm)
